Beavers Stay No. 7 in AP Poll
December 14, 2015 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team comes in at No. 7 in the Associated Press rankings again this week, matching the best ranking in school history for the fourth consecutive week.
The Beavers have a big week ahead, hosting their Beavers Beyond the Classroom game Tuesday against Cal State Bakersfield, before hosting No. 14 Tennessee in a marquee matchup on Saturday.
Oregon State has opened the year with seven-straight wins, and has been dominant throughout the first month of the season, earning victories by an average of 28.7 points per game. Junior Sydney Wiese made OSU history Saturday, becoming the 19th player in school history to reach the 1,000 career-point mark in the Beavers' win over Idaho. She also notched her first career double-double, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Ruth Hamblin is also closing in on the historic 1,000-point mark, needing 46 more to reach the milestone. Hamblin is averaging 12.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Fellow senior Jamie Weisner is tops on the team with 19.1 points per game, and leads the Pac-12 in free throw percentage at 96 percent.
Hamblin, Weisner and Wiese were all named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List last week. The Beavers were one of three teams in the nation to place a trio of players on the watch list (Connecticut, South Carolina).
