
Beavers Look For Road Sweep Saturday At UCSB

THE GAME: Oregon State (3-0) plays its third game in five days and looks to sweep a two-game road trip when it takes on UC Santa Barbara (1-1) at 2 p.m. on Saturday at The Thunderdome in Santa Barbara, Calif.

THE SERIES: Oregon State and UC Santa Barbara meet for the fifth time in history with the series tied, 2-2. The home team has won all four games in the series.
The Beavers closed out their non-conference schedule last year with a 76-64 win over the Gauchos on Dec. 30 at Gill Coliseum. UC Santa Barbara built a 16-point first-half lead before Oregon State rallied back to take a 37-36 advantage at the break. Six players scored in double figures for the Beavers -- Jarmal Reid 16, Olaf Schaftenaar 14, Gary Payton II 14, Victor Robbins 11, Langston Morris-Walker 11 and Malcolm Duvivier 10. Alan Williams and Michael Bryson led UCSB with 16 points each.
The teams first played on Dec. 5, 1960 with UC Santa Barbara winning at home, 62-53. Steve Pauly led the Beavers with 16 points, while Bob Jacobson had 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Beavers and Gauchos had a home-and-home series in 1986-1987 with each team winning on its home court. Oregon State won 91-85 on Dec. 5, 1986 behind 28 points from Jose Ortiz and 17 points and seven assists from Gary Payton. UC Santa Barbara held off a late Beaver rally to win 71-70 on Dec. 3, 1987. Payton had eight points, eight assists and four steals in the loss.
QUICKLY: Oregon State looks to start 4-0 for just the second time since 2000 (2011 was the other) ... The Beavers have scored 74-plus points in all three games; they scored 74 or more in four of their 31 games last season ... Gary Payton II is fourth in the nation in steals (4.3) and second in the Pac-12 in assists (6.0) ... Payton II needs at least one steal in each of the next three games to tie his father's school record for consecutive games with a steal (37) ... Tres Tinkle and Payton II are the only players on the team to score in double figures in all three games ... Tinkle is 17-20 (85 percent) from the free throw line in the last two games ... Drew Eubanks is second in the nation in field goal percentage (88.2 percent) ... Malcolm Duvivier has posted career highs this season with six assists and four 3-point field goals ... Langston Morris-Walker is 4-for-8 from beyond the arc in the last two games ... Daniel Gomis (hand) and Jarmal Reid (foot) didn't make the road trip with injuries.
