Corvallis, Ore. – Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi leads four Oregon State wrestlers in the top 20 in their respective weight classes in the weekly rankings released by InterMat and The Open Mat on Tuesday.
And the Beavers, who face Rutgers and Utah Valley at Gill Coliseum this Saturday in their home opener, moved up a spot to No. 18 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll after defeating then-No. 19 West Virginia and then-No. 25 Northern Iowa at the Northeast Duals on Nov. 15.
Dhesi (8-0) won all three of his matches at the Northeast Duals and moved up two spots to No. 5 in both polls. His most impressive victory was an 11-5 decision over then No. 4-ranked Blaize Cabell of Northern Iowa. He also defeated then-No. 14 Collin Jansen of Nebraska, 13-7.
Sophomore 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser (5-2) is ranked No. 6 by The Open Mat and No. 10 by InterMat; he was No. 12 in both polls in the previous rankings. Bresser went 2-1 at the Northeast Duals, knocking off then-No. 3 Zeke Moisey of West Virginia, the 2015 NCAA runner-up, and then-No. 10 Tim Lambert of Nebraska, 4-3.
Redshirt sophomore 197-pounder Cody Crawford (5-2) is ranked No. 15 by InterMat and No. 16 by The Open Mat. He was No. 12 in each poll last week but fell after losing two matches to ranked foes at the Northeast Duals.
Senior 165-pounder Seth Thomas (6-1) remained No. 12 by InterMat and moved up three spots to No. 16 by The Open Mat. He went 2-1 on Sunday.
The Beavers are the only Pac-12 team in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Top 25. Arizona State and Stanford also received votes. Penn State moved up to No. 1, followed by Iowa, Michigan, Oklahoma State and Ohio State.
OSU moved up two spots to No. 17 in InterMat's dual-meet Top 25 and debuted at No. 23 in the tournament rankings.
The Beavers will meet No. 15 Rutgers at 11 a.m. and unranked Utah Valley at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free, but because of the home football game with Washington fans must pay for parking if they use a football pay lot.
