November 16, 2015 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team and head coach Laura Berg announced the addition of one of the top high school pitchers in the nation on Monday, as Nerissa Eason has signed and will be eligible to compete for the Beavers starting in the 2016-17 academic year.
“We're very excited to have Nerissa part of the Beaver family,” Berg said. “With how hard she throws and her mentality on the mound, Nerissa is going to do some great things here. She's competitive, she's a fighter and she's gritty. She has a great changeup. She can go east-to-west and north-to-south. She's a top-five pitcher in her recruiting class for 2016, and top-12 overall in the whole recruiting class.”
A product of Bear River High School and native of Grass Valley, Calif., Eason is regarded as not only one of the top pitchers in the country, but also as one of the top high school softball athletes in the nation, as she was recently ranked in the top-12 overall in FloSoftball's 2016 Hot 100 Class. Of particular note in Eason's repertoire is her fastball, which has been consistently clocked at 68 miles per hour and touches 70.
While at Bear River, Eason was all-league as a freshman before being named all-league MVP as a sophomore. As a junior, Eason was an all-city and all-metro Sacramento selection. During the fall, Eason also competed in volleyball.
Eason competed in club softball for the All-American Sports Academy Merrida 18U Gold Team. This season, Eason helped her squad place in the top-10 in the PGF Nationals as well as at the Boulder IDT.
