Corvallis, Ore. – Four Oregon State wrestlers remain in the top 20 in their respective weight classes in the weekly rankings released by InterMat and The Open Mat on Tuesday.
And the Beavers, who open their dual-meet season at the Northeast Duals on Sunday, dropped one spot to No. 19 in the first USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll of the regular season.
Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi (5-0) earned the highest individual ranking. The 2014 Pacific-12 Conference runner-up and NCAA-tournament competitor, who missed last season with a knee injury, is ranked No. 7 by InterMat and The Open Mat.
Sophomore 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser (3-1) is ranked 12th by both polls. He was the Pac-12 champion and won two bouts at the NCAAs last season.
Redshirt sophomore 197-pounder Cody Crawford (4-0) is ranked No. 9 by The Open Mat and No. 11 by InterMat. Senior 165-pounder Seth Thomas (4-0) is ranked 12th by InterMat and 19th by The Open Mat.
Thomas, Crawford and Dhesi all won their weight classes this past Sunday at the season-opening Mike Clock Open tournament at Pacific University. Bresser took second place to teammate Kegan Calkins.
The Beavers are the only Pac-12 team in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Top 25. Arizona State and Stanford also received votes. The top 5 of Oklahoma State, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio State remained unchanged from the preseason rankings. OSU is No. 19 in InterMat's dual-meet Top 25.
OSU will face three ranked teams on Sunday at the Northwest Duals tournament in Troy, N.Y. They face No. 10 Nebraska at 8:20 a.m. (PST); No. 25 Northern Iowa at 10:30 a.m. and No. 19 West Virginia at 12:30 p.m.
The Beavers will meet No. 17 Rutgers and unranked Utah Valley on Nov. 21 in their home dual-meet openers. Starting times have not yet been finalized.
