Conforto Headed To World Series
October 22, 2015 | Baseball
CHICAGO – Former Oregon State left fielder Michael Conforto and his New York Mets have advanced to the 2015 World Series by virtue of sweeping the National League Championship Series from the Chicago Cubs.
Conforto, who was wearing an Oregon State uniform just 18 months ago, is one step closer to becoming the third Beaver to take home a World Series ring. Jacoby Ellsbury has won two – in 2007 and 2013 with the Boston Red Sox – while Andrew Susac won a championship with the San Francisco Giants last season.
A native of Woodinville, Wash., Conforto batted .270 for the Mets in 174 regular-season at bats, and is 1-for-15 in the postseason. His first career postseason AB was a home run in the Mets' National League Division Series in Los Angeles.
He's been stellar in the outfield, totaling four putouts in the postseason. He had an error free regular season as well, tallying 85 putouts with six assists.
Conforto has also made history of a different note. He is the third player to play in a Little League World Series (2004 with Redmond, Wash.), a College World Series (2013) and now an MLB World Series. He joins MLB veterans Ed Vosberg and Jason Varitek in exclusive company.
