No. 18 OSU Cruises Past Gonzaga

Vancouver Lake, Wash. – The No. 18 Oregon State men's rowing team cruised past Gonzaga on Saturday morning, with the Varsity 8 tallying their fastest time of the season.
“Overall I thought it was a successful day,” said Head Coach Steve Todd. “There was some very high quality racing.”
The Beavers raced six boats come Saturday morning and four of them topped Gonzaga. The Varsity 8, in particular, gained a steady lead on the Bulldog's, finishing with a time of 5:52.9, their fastest time this season. Gonzaga followed up with a 6:03.1.
“The Varsity 8 raced Gonzaga a month ago and we won by about the same margin,” Todd said. “Both crews have made good improvements over the last month.”
Following the Varsity 8, Oregon State's Junior Varsity crew collected another win. This race was a little closer, but the Beavs were able to tally the win. Oregon State recorded a time of 6:07.0, followed by Gonzaga's 6:10.0.
“The JV boats were matched up really well today,” Todd said. “We had to race well in order to finish ahead of that Gonzaga crew.”
The Beavers also topped the Bulldog's in the Third Varsity competition as Oregon State's A and B boats slipped past Gonzaga with final times of 6:13.0 and 6:21.3, respectively. The two Freshman 8 crews finished up the day, recording a 6:06.8 and 6:33.2, but it wasn't enough to surpass Gonzaga's freshman boat.
Oregon State is back in action tomorrow morning as they face No. 12 Stanford. The races will begin at 8:30 a.m. PT on Lake Vancouver.
“We are looking forward to another good Pac-12 race against Stanford tomorrow,” Todd said. “Stanford is ranked No. 12 so it will be a good test for us.”
