CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior third baseman Ashley Sanchez and Elizabeth Santana, Beltran ripped her sixth home run of the season well over the fence in left to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead.
After Stanford scored a run in the top of the third to make it 3-1, the Beavers (23-11) again threatened with a walk from Santana and a single by Beltran. Cardinal starter Kelsey Stevens was able to tiptoe through the raindrops, though, as she didn't allow a run to score. Stanford (26-9) also added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-3 lead.
The Beavers pulled to within one with three runs in their half of the sixth. Freshman Ally Kutz was hit by a pitch and sophomore Mollee Schwegler to make it 7-4, then junior Bailee Niehus ripped a single up the middle to score two more runs.
With the score 7-6, Stanford was able to push across an insurance run in its half of the seventh to round out the scoring.
Santana and Beltran each had hits in each half of the doubleheader. Santana had singles in each while walking twice in game two, and Beltran went 3-for-7 in the two games. Gilmore also had a hit in game one. The Cardinal took game one, 7-0.
Oregon State has a chance to salvage the series finale tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for noon at the OSU Softball Complex.
