Softball Completes Perfect Weekend at Easton Invitational

LAS VEGAS – The Oregon State softball team did something that many people can only dream about on weekend trips to Las Vegas. The Beavers did nothing but win. OSU defeated Seattle, 6-2, Sunday afternoon to complete a 5-0 weekend at the Easton Invitational. It's the first road invitational sweep of at least five games since OSU won all five at the 2006 Worth Tournament in Fullerton, Calif., in the midst of a 28-game winning streak that season.
Senior pitchers Tina Andreana and Marina Demore combined to pitch a one-hitter with Demore throwing two perfect innings to earn the save. Seattle came into the Easton Invitational with five hitters batting over .300. The Redhawks got their lone hit in the second inning when they put up a pair of runs. Despite the runs allowed, Andreana still put a special mark on that frame by tallying four strikeouts and finishing with six in her five innings of work.
The Beavers (8-3) erased the deficit with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. With Ashley Sanchez tied the score when her grounder to second was misplayed. Oregon State took the lead in the fifth with the same two runners on. Second baseman Ya Garcia singled home Beltran to give the Beavers a 3-2 advantage, and Sanchez drove home Cavestany for her second RBI of the day to make it 4-2.
Demore came in relief in the top of the sixth with two runners on, but Seattle did nothing with the opportunity. The Beavers dialed long distance to add two insurance runs in the bottom half as center fielder Hannah Bouska and first baseman Natalie Hampton each homered to center.
Cavestany had a game-high three hits in three at-bats while Bouska and Hampton each had two hits.
The Beavers carry their six-game winning streak into the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic next weekend in Cathedral City, Calif., as OSU opens with Colorado State and Maryland on Thursday night.
