STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman transfer Anica Yoo with the Beavers' best score in the opening round of the Peg Barnard Invitational.
Pickerell, a transfer from the University of Tennessee, played all four tournaments in the fall for the Lady Vols before transferring to Oregon State. She made an impact in her first career round with the Beavers by finishing the day at the par-71, 6,051-yard Stanford Golf Course with two birdies, three bogeys and a double. Yoo hasn't missed a tournament in her two-year career and was steady as usual on Saturday with a birdie and four bogeys.
The pair led the Beavers to eighth place at the two-day, 36-hole tournament with a 17-over 301 with the final round slated for Sunday. The Pac-12 Bay Area schools are leading the tournament, which shouldn't be a surprise since they get plenty of practice on the course, as California is first after a 1-over 285 and Stanford is four strokes back after a 5-over 289.

Only six strokes separate fourth and eighth place, so the Beavers have an opportunity to move up the leaderboard with a strong performance in Sunday's final round.
"Anica and Ashlee both struck the ball well and stayed committed to their game plans," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "I was pleased with how quickly Ashlee has made some adjustments to her set up and has learned the golf course."
Freshman Lauren Sewell and Seshia Telles each finished with a 6-over 77. Sewell had two birdies on the day; Saelee and Telles both had one.
"We played consistently today," Alexander added. "Lauren, Chelsea and Seshia also had a good ball-striking day and plan to have better speed on the greens tomorrow. The greens are firm and fast and we adjusted well after our trip to Florida where the greens were slower and grainy. So we are pleased with today's performance and look forward to playing tomorrow."
Only seven of the 73 players in the tournament finished the opening round in red figures, led by Megan Osland of San Jose State who shot a 3-under 68.
The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with a shotgun start and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
