STANFORD, Calif. – Seshia Telles posted a solid score for the second straight day and the Oregon State women's golf team knocked 10 strokes off its opening round at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday to move up the leaderboard.
After posting a 20-over 304 on Friday, the Beavers shot a 10-over 294 at the par-71, 6,130-yard Stanford Golf Course to move into sole 15th place at the three-day, 54-hole tournament. The event, which features 10 teams ranked in the top 25, including five of the nation's top 10, concludes on Sunday.
Telles fired a 1-over 72 on Saturday, with three birdies, after opening with a 2-over 73 and sits in a tie for 33rd place with a 3-over 145.
Sophomore Ashlee Pickerell had the biggest improvement over the two days, as she carded a 2-over 73 in the second round after a 6-over 77 on the first day. Junior Anica Yoo was also much better on Saturday, posting a 3-over 73 despite taking a triple-bogey on the par-4 second hole, after an opening round 6-over 77.
Senior Lauren Sewell also shot a 6-over 77 on Friday but was two strokes better in the second round with a 4-over 75. Sophomore Chelsea Saelee had an 8-over 79 on Saturday after opening with a 9-over 80.
No. 1 UCLA shot a ridiculous 16-under 268 to move into second place with a 12-under 556 and close the gap on No. 2 and first round leader USC, which holds the clubhouse lead through 36 holes with a 20-under 548.
Sophia Popov of USC is the clubhouse leader with a 9-under 66-67--133, while her teammate Karen Chung and UCLA's Alison Lee are tied for second with a 6-under 136.
The final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday with tee times off the first and 10th holes.
