Hall Reaches Milestone; Beavers Hit 30-Win Plateau After Sweep

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Tina Andreana threw the second complete-game shutout of her career in the opener and Paige Hall notched her 50th career win in the second game as both hurlers helped the 23rd-ranked Oregon State softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Portland State at the OSU Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Beavers won by scores of 2-0 and 3-2.
The victories move the team's record to 31-15 overall and clinches a winning record at home for the Orange & Black. Oregon State has now won 30 or more games in 12 of its 38 seasons as a Division I program. OSU last reached the mark in 2007 when it finished 41-23 en route to an NCAA Regional appearance in Ann Arbor, Mich.
In the opener, Tina Andreana made her third-straight strong outing, using an economical 81 pitches to dispatch of the Vikings in a 2-0 win. She threw a staggering 60 strikes out of that total, striking out nine, walking only one and allowing just two hits. Portland State (21-23) moved just one runner past first base all game as Andreana only had to face four batters over the minimum in the win.
The Beavers' single runs in both the second and third innings were more than enough for Andreana. Ya Garcia drove in a run with a single in the second as part of a 2-for-2 effort and Erin Guzy drove in another with an opposite-field base hit in the third. The two hits for Garcia earned the freshman her third multi-hit game of the season and Guzy has now reached safely in 11 straight games, including getting a hit in eight of her last nine.
The win moved Andreana's record to 8-9 overall and gave the junior the first three-game winning streak of her career. Her nine strikeouts also set a new career best for a seven-inning game. She struck out nine in 7.2 innings of work against Seattle last season and set down 11 in a nine-inning affair earlier this year against San Diego State.
Andreana has pitched 20.0 innings in her last three starts, all OSU wins, striking out 15 and only allowing four earned runs for a 1.40 ERA.
In game two, the pitching was just as strong for Oregon State. Aryn Feickert started, surrendering two earned in 3.2 innings, before giving way to Hall. The Beaver senior came on with two outs in the fourth, allowed only one hit the rest of the way while striking out five to earn the win.
Hall is now 13-2 this season and 50-42 in her career, becoming just the sixth pitcher in Oregon State history to amass that many victories in the circle. Her 367 strikeouts in 564.0 innings put her just eight shy of passing Kelly Dyer (2007-10) for fifth all-time at OSU.
The Beavers used a three-run third inning as their lone offensively fruitful frame in game two. Guzy had another opposite-field RBI single before Hall helped her own cause with a two-RBI double that drove in Elizabeth Santana and Guzy.
Oregon State will be back in action this coming weekend when it travels to Salt Lake City for a three-game Pac-12 set against Utah. First pitch in the opener on Friday is set for 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT.
