REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - On a picture-perfect day in Northern California, the Oregon State men's crew team closed out another strong weekend with a pair of wins over UC San Diego on the final day of the Stanford Invitational. The Beavers' V8 and F8 trounced the Tritons in the team's final competition before a cross-country trek to race on the historic Charles River next weekend. Oregon State's JV8 finished second.
"There was great racing by both the varsity and freshmen today," Oregon State head coach Steve Todd said. "They are starting to put the pieces together on a more consistent basis and it shows."
OSU's V8 of Dan Thompson (coxswain), Ross Ellingwood, Daniel Werner, Clayton Ward, Wyatt Worrel, Jorgen Anderson, Bryce Fransen, Ty Louis and Chris Nofziger used a spurt to pull away from UCSD, eventually finishing in 5:58.8, 20 seconds ahead of their opponent.
In the F8 race, Eric Sumner (coxswain), Martin Forde, Max Katz, Henry Prosser, Eric Gustafson, Will Gangmark-Strickland, John Broc, Kyle Wilkins and Dylan Nelson completed the course in 6:04.2 compared to UCSD's 6:12.4.
Mike Hann (coxswain), Brad Buser, Chase Hooper, Andrew Read, Etienne Mullin, Julian Dansk, Scott Mersereau, Morgan Boman and James Shrieve came in second in their JV8 tilt with the Tritons, crossing the line after 6:07.6 of work.
