STANFORD, Calif. - For the first time all season, the No. 23 Oregon State softball team was unable to come out of a weekend with at least one win, as the Beavers dropped the final game of a three-game set against No. 15 Stanford, 8-0, at Smith Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
"This is really our first sub-par performance all season," Oregon State head coach Kirk Walker said. "It's disappointing, but it's bound to happen at some point during the grind of the Pac-12 schedule. We have to continue to look forward. There are still a lot of games to be played and a lot of wins to be had as we push toward an NCAA Tournament berth."
OSU was down early as Stanford jumped on the board in the first, putting seven runs on the board all before an out was recorded. The explosion was accentuated with a grand slam off the bat of Jenna Becerra, her second of the weekend.
Stanford added one more run in the fourth to make the score 8-0 and end the game before a full seven innings had to be played.
In the loss Erin Guzy extended her season-high hitting streak to four games and pushed her average over .300 on the year (.301). Paige Hall, Lea Cavestany and Hannah Bouska recorded the other base knocks for the Beavers.
Despite the rough weekend, Oregon State only needs one more victory to clinch its first regular season with a record above .500 since 2007.
