TUCSON, Ariz. - Freshman Anica Yoo fired a career-best 2-under 70 and the Oregon State women's golf team shot its best round of the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday to move up three spots and place fifth at the 14-team event for the Beavers' third top-five finish of the 2011-12 season.
Yoo threw five birdies on her scorecard for her first career sub-par round and the best by an Oregon State player in the spring's first event to help the Beavers finish with a 44-over 307-302-299--908 after rallying for the fourth-best team total on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,250-yard Golf Club at Vistoso.
"We really got off to a good start today under some windy and cold conditions," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "We didn't finish as strong but definitely made a strong move to finish the event in fifth place. We had three consistent and good days of golf.
"Everyone contributed to our team score," she added. "This is a solid start to our spring season and I am proud of this team. We plan on continuing to work hard and improve. Of course it's fun to see Anica begin to play the way she is very capable of. She has a great sense of how to play and score."
