Eugene, Ore. - Junior Patricia Bright (Phoenix, Ariz.) broke the school record for most blocked shots in a single season to lead the Oregon State women's basketball team (18-9, 9-7 Pac-12) to a 68-53 win over Oregon (14-14, 6-10 Pac-12) in front of a crowd of 3,604 on Saturday afternoon in Matthew Knight Arena.
Bright scored 14 points, shooting 75 percent from the field and connecting on each of her eight free throw attempts. Her five blocked shots boosted her season total to 95, resetting the record set last season by El Sara Greer of 92.
The Beavers completed the season sweep over Oregon for the first time since the 1992-93 season, while marking the third straight win in the all-time series.
After trailing by seven points in the first half, the Beavers battled back midway through the second half to gain the eventual lead behind a 18-1 run to put the team up by as many as nine at the 50-41 mark.
A big three-point play by senior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) provided the team the final spark to hold off Oregon after the Ducks narrowed the Beavers lead to five at 52-47, while hitting 13 of her 15 free throw attempts in the second half, nine in the final 1:33.
The Beavers went 11-of-12 from the line down the stretch to lead by as many as 15, which would stand as the final score with 15 seconds remaining.
Marchbanks led all scorers with 19 points, adding nine rebounds and five assists, while sophomore Alyssa Martin (Portland, Ore.) rounded out the Beaver scorers in double-figures with 13, tallying eight rebounds.
Oregon State shot a season-high 92.9 percent from the charity stripe, hitting 26-of-28. The Beavers outshot the Ducks 36 percent (18-50) to 24.6 percent (17-69) and pulled down 41 rebounds to Oregon's 36.
The Beavers scored the opening points of the game, but Oregon took the lead on an Amanda Johnson three-pointer that would hold throughout the half.
Both teams struggled throughout the half from the field with the Ducks shooting 30.6 percent (11-36) and Oregon State connecting 28 percent (7-25) of the time with both teams held scoreless as long as a 3:42 late in the first half.
But Oregon took the 29-22 lead into the locker room at halftime, while Martin led the Beavers with eight points and five rebounds.
Oregon's Johnson and Ariel Thomas led the Ducks with 13 points each, while Johnson added 10 rebounds.
Oregon State heads back on the road next to open up the final weekend of regular season play at Utah on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. PT.
