Seattle, Wash. – Junior Mollee Schwegler (Rainier, Ore.) scored a career-high 15 points off the bench in 15 minutes played to propel the Oregon State women's basketball team (17-7, 8-5 Pac-12) to a 78-73 win over Washington (13-10, 5-8 Pac-12) on Saturday afternoon in Alaska Airlines Arena.
Oregon State extended its winning streak to six in conference play, marking the longest since 1994-95, when the team won seven straight.
Schwegler shot 5-of-7, 4-of-6 from three-point range, while being backed up by senior Earlysia Marchbanks' (Salem, Ore.) fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Alyssa Martin (Portland, Ore.) added 13 points, while freshman Ali Gibson (Woodbridge, Calif.) and junior Patricia Bright (Phoenix, Ariz.) both had 12 each.
Oregon State shot 52.0 percent (26-50) to Washington's 47.3 percent (26-55). The Beavers were 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) in the second half alone, and they were just shy of 70 percent from the line in the final 20 minutes, hitting 11-of-16.
The Beavers started the second half on a 13-5 run before Washington used its first timeout of the half with Oregon State leading 47-39 with 15:22 remaining.
But Washington wouldn't quit as it went on a 12-0 run to regain a six-point lead with 9:16 remaining. An offensive foul called on Washington's Regina Rogers, prompting a technical foul to be called on the Washington head coach, changed the momentum of the game in favor of Oregon State.
Oregon State built its lead back up to as many as nine at the 73-64 mark with under a minute remaining with the game looking as if it was over. But Washington's Jazmine Davis wasn't going to go quietly, hitting three big three-pointers in 30 seconds to bring the Beavers back within three at 76-73.
The Beavers went 6-of-8 from the line in the last 45 seconds, including Marchbanks' final pair with under five seconds to play to seal the win.
Washington jumped out to a 5-0 start to open the game after winning the tip, but the Beavers tied the score behind an Indendi jumper and a three-point play by Bright for the first tie of six in the first half.
Oregon State earned its first lead on a Gibson three-pointer, but the two teams would trade the lead four more times throughout the half with Washington leading most of the way.
Schwegler provided a spark off the bench at point guard, hitting back-to-back three pointers, while Martin led all Beaver scorers with seven points in the half as the game was knotted up at 34 going into the locker room after a long Indendi jumper, just shy of three-point range.
Davis led all scorers with 20 points, while Mollie Williams had nine rebounds.
