SEATTLE, Wash. -
The Oregon State men's rowing team, ranked 17th in the nation, wrapped up its regular season Saturday morning at the Windermere Cup in Seattle.
Four crews took to the water for the Orange and Black – Varsity 4+, Junior Varsity 8, Freshman 8 and Second Freshman 8 – and all faced tough competition but were unable to gain victory as the Huskies successfully defended their home course.
In the Beavers' first race of the day, the Varsity 4+ rowed against three strong crews from UW as well as crews from Sacramento State and Seattle Pacific. Oregon State finished fifth with a time of 6-minutes, 58.8 seconds just two seconds behind the Hornets.
Oregon State's second race had the Beavers F8 and 2F8 boats pitted against a pair of crews from Washington. OSU's F8 raced tightly with the Huskies' second boat coming up three seconds short of second at the finish with a time of 6:22.9.
In the Erickson Cascade Cup, the Beavers' JV8 finished fourth, 7.5 seconds behind Stanford and 3.5 behind University of Victoria.
Oregon State races at the Pac-10 Championships next Sunday, May 15, on Lake Natoma at Rancho Cordova, Calif.
