CORVALLIS, Ore. - Ryan Dunn hit for the second cycle in Oregon State history and Jared Norris and Michael Miller also hit home runs as the No. 2 Beavers downed Portland, 13-3, in a non-conference game at Goss Stadium Tuesday night.
Dunn doubled in the second, homered in the fifth, singled in the sixth and tripled in the eighth for the Beavers' first cycle since Andy Jenkins did so against USC on June 13, 2005. He drove in four runs to pace the Beavers, who won their 12th consecutive game over the Pilots.
"Obviously, Ryan had a great game but all around it was a great effort," Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. "It was good to have Andrew (Susac) back in the lineup and it was a great chance to see Adam (Duke) on the hill in the ninth. Overall, this was a good way to end our non-conference schedule."
All told, the Beavers finished with 14 hits off four Portland pitchers. Brian Stamps had two of his own to push his hit streak to seven games. Parker Berberet was 2-for-4 with an RBI and overall, nine different players finished with at least one hit.
Susac made his first appearance for the Beavers since April 3 and went 1-for-4, singling home two runs during the Beavers' four-run fifth.
Dunn's fifth-inning home run was the team's first of three, setting a season-high. Miller and Norris both hit round-trippers - Miller's was a solo shot while Norris' drove in two - for their first home runs of the season.
James Nygren was the beneficiary of the team's offensive outburst, going 5 2/3 innings to improve to 8-1 this season. He allowed just three hits and a run while striking out four to improve to 4-0 lifetime against the Pilots.
Duke and Matt Boyd combined to go the last 3 1/3 innings, holding Portland to one two runs and a hit with five strikeouts combined. For Duke, it was his first collegiate appearance.
Kavin Keyes drove home his first of two runs with a sacrifice fly in the first to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead, but Chet Thompson grounded out to third in the top half of the second to drive in Portland's first run.
The tie didn't last long, however, as both Berberet and Dunn doubled on consecutive at bats to give the Beavers a 3-1 lead.
OSU extended its lead to 7-1 with a four-run fifth and scored its last six runs of the game in the eighth.
Matt McCallister was the first of four pitchers for Portland and took the loss to drop to 0-4 this season. He allowed five hits and five runs while walking one and striking out two in 4 2/3 innings.
Oregon State pushed its record to 35-11 this season with the win while Portland fell to 17-25.
The Beavers return to Pacific-10 Conference play Friday night when taking on Washington at Safeco Field in Seattle. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
