Softball Drops Games to Northwestern and Long Island

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team dropped both ends of a day-night double-header Saturday at the Cathedral City Classic. The Beavers fell to Northwestern by a score of 8-4 before falling to Long Island by a score of 3-0.
Game 1 vs. Northwestern
The Beavers fell behind in the top of the first inning when the Wildcats hit back-to-back home runs off Oregon State starting pitcher Marina Demore.
The Beavers (5-3 overall) took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Paige Hall led off the inning with a walk. Audrey Roderfeld reached on an error advancing Hall to second. Desiree Beltran reached on an another error and Hall came around to score on a play at the plate which allowed Roderfeld to get to third and Beltran to move to second. Two batters later, Nikki Chandler singled up the middle scoring both Roderfeld and Beltran.
Northwestern added two more in the top of the third inning but the Beavers added another run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up at four runs apiece.
The Wildcats added two more runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to give them the final 8-4 decision.
Marina Demore started the game for the Beavers and went four innings giving up four earned runs off of three hits and three walks. Tina Andreana pitched a season high 3 1/3 innings giving up four runs, none of which were earned, on four hits while walking five. She was tagged with her first loss of the season.
Wildcats starter Meghan Lamberth recorded her sixth win of the season going four innings and giving up one earned run on seven hits. Sammy Albanese recorded her first save of the season.
Game 2 vs. Long Island
The Beavers threatened several times in the ballgame but could not get a run across the plate suffering their first shutout loss of the season.
Oregon State moves to 5-4 on the season with the loss Saturday night. It had two runners on in the first inning as well as the second inning but could not find that big hit.
Beavers starting pitcher Hall pitched six scoreless innings going into the top of the seventh inning before Long Island (3-10) were able to break the scoreless tie with three runs in the seventh.
Oregon State could not mount a comeback in the bottom half of the seventh inning giving Hall her first loss of the year falling to 1-1 on the season.
Oregon State finishes play at the Cathedral City Classic Sunday at 1 p.m. when it takes on Fresno State.
