CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Senior El Sara Greer (Waterloo, Iowa) had a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Oregon State erased a 20-point halftime deficit to beat Oregon 61-59 on Saturday night in front of a season-high 3,130 in legendary Gill Coliseum.
Greer hit a layup with 1:14 left that tied it at 59, and freshman Alexis Bostick (Oakland, Calif.) hit a pair of free throws with just under a minute to go to give Oregon State (9-16, 2-12 Pac-10) the lead.
Oregon's Amanda Johnson missed a three-point attempt on the other end with six seconds left and time ran out for the rival Ducks (12-13, 3-11).
Junior Earlysia Marchbanks added 17 points and a career-high six steals for Oregon State, which trailed 36-16 at the half. It was the Beavers' second conference win under first-year coach Scott Rueck after a 51-46 victory over Washington on Feb. 5.
“It feels good getting a win, but because it's the Civil War, it feels even better,” Greer said. “Hopefully we have two more wins coming up soon.”
Added Rueck: "This is pretty special."
Oregon won the teams' first meeting, 81-72, in Eugene, but the Ducks have lost seven straight since then.
Johnson led Oregon with 18 points and nine rebounds. Tatianna Thomas added 11 points.
The Beavers jumped out to a 14-9 lead, but Oregon went on a 24-0 run to lead 33-14. Oregon State didn't score for more than an eight-minute span.
The Ducks went cold to start the second half and didn't score for some seven minutes, allowing the Beavers to cut into their lead.
"Coming out after halftime, the first shot fell, and then the second shot fell, and we were like, 'Hmmm,'" Marchbanks said.
Greer's layup with 9:34 left pulled Oregon State to within 44-43, and the Beavers went on to take a 50-49 lead on Marchbanks' layup with 5:35 left.
Johnson answered with a three-pointer, but momentum was with the Beavers, who pulled ahead 57-56 on Greer's three-point play with 1:56 left. Again Johnson hit a three-pointer but Greer was able to tie it with her layup with 1:14 to go.
"El [Sara Greer] dominated inside, so we just kept feeding her the ball," Marchbanks said.
Oregon coach Paul Westhead said he thought Johnson had a good look for her final shot.
"My quickest analysis would be that we struggled and we stopped scoring," he said.
