Kathleen Takaishi officially became Oregon State University's assistant women's golf coach on Feb. 23, 2004, returning to her alma mater after serving as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at the University of California-Riverside for the last 1 1/2 years.
The former OSU All-American played professionally on the Futures Tour for three years after finishing her OSU career with her second-consecutive NCAA Championships appearance in 1999. Takaishi's All-America honors came after a 25th-place finish in 1998, when she led OSU to 16th.
"This is a very good thing for our program," OSU coach Rise Lakowske said of Takaishi's hiring. "Kathleen knows what it takes to go to Nationals, having led our team in 1998 and earning All-America honors that year. She brings that knowledge to our program and sets a good example for our student-athletes.
"She's very personally-motivated, and she brings a wealth of experience to our program from coaching and from playing professionally. She's been there and knows what it takes to succeed."
Takaishi earned four letters from 1995-96 and 1998-99 while playing for Lakowske.
The San Bernardino, Calif., native holds OSU's records for low single round (69), low three rounds (213) and career top-10 finishes (15). Takaishi also holds the women's course record at Trysting Tree Golf Club (OSU's home course), having shot 64 from the white tees.
