CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's golf team enters Wednesday's final round at the 30th Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., in contention for back-to-back top-five finishes to start their fall campaign.
The Beavers shot a 25-over 313 on Tuesday after firing a 10-over 298 in Monday's opening round that gave them the clubhouse lead at the 12-team tournament that is being played at the par-72, 6,063-yard Sahalee Country Club. The Beavers have a chance to finish in the top-five in their first two events of the fall season after finishing fifth two weeks ago at the Cougar Cup in Pullman, Wash.
"The good news is that two weeks in a row we have been in contention and we should be learning through these experiences," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander. "We just need to continue to believe and behave like champions and we will get there soon. Today was a tough day for the Beavers. We came out and got off to a poor start and I don't believe we handled the lead position like we wanted to."
Sophomore Lauren Sewell had the best round for the Beavers on Tuesday to match her opening round with a 4-over 76, while sophomore Seshia Telles had a 5-over 77 and freshman Anica Yoo posted a 6-over 78. Yoo is the highest Oregon State player on the individual leaderboard with a 6-over 72-78--150 to put in her in a tie for ninth place. Telles is tied for 11th with a 7-over 74-77--151, Sewell is tied for 17th with a 8-over 76-76--152 and senior Whitney French is tied for 41st with a 15-over 76-83--159.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
