Los Angeles, Calif. – Senior El Sara Greer (Waterloo, Iowa) and freshman Alyssa Martin (Portland, Ore.) both tallied 10 point each with Greer adding seven rebounds and a pair of blocks in the Oregon State women's basketball 53-45 loss to USC on Saturday at the Galen Center.
Martin had four rebounds and two steals.
After missing a pair of free throws to open the game, Martin rebounded with a big three pointer heading into the media break. The Beavers scored first on a junior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) long jumper, but USC followed up with a 6-0 run before Martin's long bucket to make it 6-5 in favor of the Women of Troy.
USC (12-4, 4-1) built its lead to as many as six after building a 5-0 run, but Oregon State answered back in the form of its own 8-2 run to tie the game at 13 all led by freshman Alexis Bostick's five points.
But USC finished the first half outscoring Oregon State 10-6 to hold a 23-19 lead at the half, despite both teams struggling from the field with the Beavers shooting 25.9 percent and the Women of Troy converting on 31.3 percent of their chances.
Greer scored the first basket of the second half with the two teams trading points as the Women of Troy still holding a four-point lead until another Martin three and a put back layup by Greer gave Oregon State its first lead since the opening basket at 28-27.
But the Beavers went cold from the field, unable to hit another basket until the 11:30 minute mark, while USC built its lead back up to five at 33-28 before Greer cut it to three on a layup.
The Women of Troy built their lead to double digits at 40-30, but redshirt sophomore Sage Indendi (Livingston, Mont.), who struggled early, hit back-to-back short jumpers to make it a six-point ball game.
The Beavers were able to hit a handful more field goals down the stretch, led by Indendi's five points. But in the closing minutes the team had good looks, but it was unable to count any buckets as USC finished on top.
USC's Christina Marinacci led all scorers with 14 points, while Cassie Harberts had a game-high 12 rebounds.
