Softball Falls to No. 3 Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. – Freshman Ally Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) tallied the Oregon State softball team's (22-22, 2-8) lone RBI in Friday evening's 20-1 loss in five innings to No. 3 Arizona (36-7, 6-4) at Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium. Freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) had the team's only other hit, while the Beavers had 10 other base runners through the game. Arizona took the early 1-0 lead on a RBI single in the bottom of the first. The Wildcats added nine more in the bottom of the second before breaking it open even more with 10 more runs over the remaining two innings. The Beavers scored their lone run in the top of the fifth with sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) leading off with her third walk of the game before junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) walked. Sophomore Nikki Chandler (Houston, Texas) came in to run for Hall at second base before a two-out single by Kutz scored Chandler with Roderfeld called out at third to end the game. Hall was charged with the loss after pitching 2.1 innings, striking out three, to make her record 16-17. Arizona's Kenzie Fowler earned the win after throwing four innings, giving up one hit, to make her record 25-5. Oregon State continues the series against No. 3 Arizona on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Tonight's game will be televised on FSN via tape delay on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on FSN Northwest.
