Head Coach Craig Robinson
On the overall play of the team ...
"I was just happy that we were able to pull this game out not having played one of our better games. To their credit, Howard took advantage of being the home team. They put a lot of pressure on us and we came out sort of tentatively like we have done against teams like this. We play to the level of our competition."
On coming out strong in the second half ...
"It was really good to see the guys settle down. We had to make some adjustments. These guys were switching defenses. They did a great job. They're undersized. There were all kind of things that can trip a team like us up. We were able to kind of hang on and do what we needed to do."
On spreading the scoring around ...
"We had 27 baskets and on those baskets we had 22 assists. That's an important number for us; especially in a game like this where there are a lot of different type of defenses."
On the consistent play of Omari Johnson ...
"After the last game a reporter mentioned to me that I hadn't mentioned Omari. And I didn't because I'm getting so used to him having these great games. We are starting to expect big games from Omari. He had a very good line, but as far as Omari goes, it wasn't his best game."
On putting games away down the stretch ...
"We are still a very young team and winning on the road is a skill that is learned. You don't just automatically play well on the road when you're playing well at home. With things that you need to do to win a game on the road like make your foul shots, we made them down the stretch, but we were 23-of-36 and that's not good enough to beat good teams on the road. We are better at that than we were last year. At the end of the game, we are making our foul shots."
On the play of Jared Cunningham ...
"Jared is different from a lot of players who have that kind of athleticism, because he's a very good fundamental basketball player. You kind of live with him playing his regular game, because when he has to finish he's exciting. I think part of getting better is having players who can make plays like and letting them do it."
Senior forward Omari Johnson
On the team taking time to pull away from Howard ...
"No offense to this team, but we should have come out harder and not play down to the level of the team. It was just anticipating a win. We shouldn't be. We should take every opponent like they are able to beat us. We came out sluggish because our team felt like we can just mosey on through the game."
On the physical play of the game ...
"They are smaller and got away with a little bit of slapping and stuff, but we should have kept the ball higher and keep our rebounds up. We weren't doing a good job of that but we were able to pull it out."
On his rebounding this season ...
"I used to be a good rebounder in high school, but it kind of faded away in college. The coaches told me that I have to go hard every time and I have to go after every board."
