SAN DIEGO, Calif.- -
All three of Oregon State's boats advanced to their respective Grand Finals on Saturday with strong heat races at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.
The novice eight won their heat race, finishing well ahead of UC-Davis. Both the varsity eight and junior varsity finished second.
In the varsity eight race, the Beavers (ranked 12th nationally by USRowing) came in less than two seconds behind winner California, who claimed the victory with a mark of 5:58.6.
Junior varsity finished second to Washington by just over four seconds.
"The varsity and JV had really good races and executed everything we wanted," said OSU head coach Kjell Oswald.
"This will help us in the next couple weeks."
Oswald was very impressed with his freshman/novice team's performance as well.
"The freshman got it done and we'll see what they can do tomorrow," said Oswald.
"We were pleased with the results today."
OSU's three crews row Sunday, beginning with the novice Grand Final at 11:00 a.m. The junior varsity Grand Final begins at 12:40 p.m., and the Copley Cup Grand Final begins at 2:00 p.m.
