LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Oregon State dropped a 91-58 contest to UCLA in Saturday's Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action.
With the loss OSU falls to 11-9 overall and 5-6 in the Pac-10, while UCLA improves to 10-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
Poor shooting and turnovers proved costly for the Beavers in the opening half. OSU hit just 8-of-30 (27-percent) shots from the floor and committed 14 miscues, allowing UCLA to jump in front for good.
Oregon State went scoreless for a six-minute stretch near the beginning of the game while the Bruins reeled off 12 straight points for a 14-2 advantage with 11:56 on the clock.
UCLA shot just 39-percent in the first half but had three players score in double figures, allowing the Bruins to take a commanding 40-17 lead into the locker room.
The second half was much of the same story as the first. OSU struggled scoring and UCLA found the range from beyond the 3-point arc, proving to be a disastrous combination for the Beavers.
The Bruins built a 35-point lead (65-30) when freshman Noelle Quinn buried a jumper at the 10:52 mark.
In one of the bright spots on the afternoon for the Beavers, walk-on Bailey Stokes buried her first career field goal attempt when she hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with five minutes remaining.
"It's really frustrating," said OSU head coach Judy Spoelstra. "We just didn't defend well and it looked like we ran out of juice."
UCLA's 91 points were the most allowed by the Beavers this season and the 34-point loss was OSU's worst this year.
Junior guard Shannon Howell was the only OSU player to reach double figures in scoring with 14 points. Brina Chaney added nine points and matched her career-best with four assists.
Quinn led the Bruins with 24 points while sophomores Nikki Blue and Lisa Willis finished with 23 and 21 points, respectively.
Oregon State returns to action on Saturday when the Beavers host University of Oregon. Civil War tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game broadcast live over the Beaver Sports Network.
