Women's Varsity Eight Places Second At Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - Oregon State's 14th-ranked women's varsity eight finished second out of four boats Saturday morning in its race at Lake Carnegie. Host No. 6 Princeton won the race and the Beavers placed in front of Rutgers and George Washington.
"We had a rough start and a difficult time finding our rhythm," OSU head coach Charlie Owen said. "Rutgers drew even with us around the 1,000-meter mark and then we got things together and moved away in the second 1,000."
Princeton completed the race in six minutes, 53.1 seconds. Oregon State finished in 7:09.83, nearly four seconds in front of Rutgers and 13 seconds ahead of George Washington.
"We had two good weeks of practice and didn't respond as well as we are capable of doing," Owen said. "Princeton is a very good crew, but 16.6 seconds behind is not a good representation of our speed."
Oregon State's junior varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four competed Saturday in the Opening Day Regatta hosted by Washington in Seattle. The novice eight finished second (7:16.49), the junior varsity eight took third (7:05.73) and the varsity four was fifth (8:19.98).
The Beavers will take on the Huskies May 10 in Seattle in their final race before the Pac-10 Championships May 18.
