Oregon State head coach Judy Spoelstra Quotes
On the effort of the team:
"I thought that everybody was on the same page and that they bounced back very well from our trip to the Arizona schools last weekend. We worked very hard this week at taking care of the basketball and executing our offense so we could get good shots. I thought we did a great job of clock management; Leilani Estavan did an exceptional job of running the offense."
What OSU needed to do better during the game:
"Everything is predicated on ball reversals when you play the zone and we just needed some more of them. We talked about ball reversals during halftime, and I thought during in the second half we got a lot better at reversing the ball."
On the play of Hollye Chapman (season-high 22 points, 2 assists, 1 block, 3 rebounds):
"Hollye was the big force inside. At halftime we talked about Hollye being hot-hand Harriet, and the rule is you have to get her the ball. I thought she did a great job."
On the Beaver defense:
"I give our players a lot of credit. They worked very hard on player to player, and I would say that we had our switches down where we wanted them. We kind of had to throw some junk stuff out there and do some really straight switches because they like to post up there guards quite a bit. I really felt like our players adhered to that pretty good, with the exception down the stretch when we were up by five and they posted up Nicole Powell and we didn't get any switch."
On the play of Juleen Smith:
"She has been playing better and better after being out so long with that back injury. She has been putting more and more energy into practice now that she has been healthier and it has really helped her timing and the timing of the people around her. When the other players see her kind of energy in practice it makes them want top pick up their defense. It's nice having her back."
Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer quotes
Opening comments:
"I think Oregon State came out with an excellent game plan. Their team played very hard. They got a great game from Hollye Chapman. When things were on the line, our key players went to work and made big plays when we needed them to. I don't think this was particularly a great game for us, but I think Oregon State made it that way."
"We are struggling a bit offensively in our half-court offense and I think we are trying to figure out our best scoring options. Defensively OSU was very aggressive and we didn't pass the ball as well. The best thing for us is we got to the free throw line. We took the ball to the basket well."
On Stanford holding a 21-3 edge in free throws attempted:
"That was key. OSU was more aggressive defensively and in some situations it hurt them."
