FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Jimmie Haywood scored 24 points, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc, as Oregon State beat Indiana-Purdue-Ft. Wayne 78-71 Friday night.
Haywood hit a jumper with 2:37 remaining to boost the score to 76-71, and Oregon State got two crucial rebounds. A late Mastodons turnover and foul on Lamar Hurd - which led to two free throws - sealed the victory.
The Mastodons (2-10) led by five at 38-33 just before the half, but the Beavers (6-1) went on an 18-7 run with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. The margin of victory was their largest lead.
Haywood had two 3-pointers to kick off the late Oregon State rally. Philip Ricci also scored 20 points on 8-of-10 field goal shooting, and teammate Floyd North III scored 10 points.
Terry Collins led Indiana-Purdue-Ft. Wayne with 16 points, and Ric Wyand and David Simon each chipped in 14 points. The Mastodons shot only 30 percent from the 3-point line, while the Beavers hit 50 percent from the field and from behind the arc.
