SACRAMENTO (AP) - Phillip Ricci scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Oregon State over Sacramento State 62-49 at a Hornet Gym record crowd of 1,667 Saturday night.
The senior forward Ricci scored all but three of his points in the second half, helping the Beavers pull away after a 20-20 halftime score.
Oregon State forward Brian Jackson, who along with Ricci dominated the post, contributed 12 points. While the Beavers (4-1) shot just 42 percent for the game (21-of-49), they hit 18 of 23 free throws and outrebounded Sacramento State 42 to 33.
The Hornets (4-4) led by as many as eight in the first half, spurred by center Tony Champion, who had 16 points.
Sacramento State forward Derek Lambeth added 13 points. But the Hornets failed in their attempt to win with the 3-point shot, hitting just 3-of-22 from beyond the arc.
With the loss, Sacramento State has now lost 19 of 20 games all-time against Pac-10 teams. The Hornets compete in the Big Sky Conference.
The Beavers struggled in the first half, shooting just 31 percent. But after guard Brandon Guytons 3-pointer put the Hornets ahead 16-8, Oregon State finished the half on a 12-4 run.
Ahead 34-30 in the second half, the Beavers scored 14 straight points to pull away for good.
