Softball Earns Shutouts Over Mississippi State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Oregon State pitchers Crystal Draper and Kaitlin Wilson threw two complete game shutouts to give the No. 16 Beaver softball team a 3-0 win over No. 23 Mississippi State and a 2-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.
Draper threw a two-hitter against MSU to improve to 4-0, while Wilson picked up her first collegiate win with a four-hitter against the host Islanders. Both pitchers had seven strikeouts.
"Both Crystal and Kaitlin pitched very well in getting complete game shutouts," OSU coach Kirk Walker said. "Offensively and defensively, we looked 100 percent more confident and comfortable being outside and on the dirt."
In the game against Mississippi State, the Beavers (5-1) got on the board in the second inning after Traci Feldt doubled in Clare Burnum. Michele Chariton added an RBI and a run later in the game, with OSU scoring its other two runs in the seventh inning.
"Michele Chariton came up with a big clutch hit down the left field line to score our second run, which was a big run for us," Walker said. "We took advantage of our opportunities in that game."
In the second game, against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, OSU scored early with a run in the first inning. Shawna Feldt led off the game with a walk, went to second on Chariton's bunt and scored on Steph Adam's RBI single
Shawna Feldt later drove in OSU's only other run with an RBI single in the third inning. Feldt's hit scored Michelle Notaro, who tripled earlier in the inning.
The Beavers continue action at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament on Saturday.
