LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Tarrah Beyster homered in both games to lead the No. 12 Oregon State softball team to a 3-0 win over Texas Tech and a 6-1 victory over New Mexico in the second day of action at the Troy Cox Classic on Saturday morning.
The Beavers are 4-0 in the tournament and finished as the champion of their pool. As a result, OSU (11-4-1) earned a first-round bye in bracket play and doesn't compete again until Sunday at 8 a.m. OSU's opponent wasn't determined until later Saturday evening.
Beyster went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run against the Red Raiders before going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI against New Mexico. She has hit three home runs in the tournament and four on the season.
Beyster also picked up the shutout victory against Texas Tech, limiting the Red Raiders to just three hits with nine strikeouts. She improved to 6-4 on the season with the win.
Steph Adams had OSU's other RBI with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Parisa Plant, Shawna Feldt and Traci Feldt each singled for OSU's only other hits.
"We were able to come up with a couple big hits, but we struggled a little getting ourselves going offensively. Tarrah came through big today with some key RBI," said coach Kirk Walker. "Tarrah also pitched a very good game and kept them off balance and off base. Texas Tech is a good team out of their region, so it was good to come away with a shutout."
Adams also went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the win over New Mexico, while Shannon Sorg added a double and Cara Maxey had a single in that game.
Crystal Draper improved to 5-0 after allowing just five hits while striking out seven New Mexico batters.
"Offensively, we came out aggressive early on and forced them to make some errors. We were aggressive throughout the whole lineup," Walker said. "Crystal had great ball control and kept them off balance."
