Oregon State Falls In Title Game

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Marquette got 19 points from center Abbie Willenborg as the Golden Eagles beat Oregon State 69-56 Saturday night for the championship of the Beaver Classic women's basketball tournament at Gill Coliseum. Forward Lisa Oldenburg added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Marquette (3-1) in the win.
Oregon State (2-1) was led by center Sissel Pierce's 18 points.
In the third-place game, Pacific beat Idaho State 64-55. Selena Ho led four Tigers (2-1) in double figures with 18 points, while Sarah Nelson had 12 for Idaho State (2-2).
Oldenburg was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Willenborg, OSU center Sissel Pierce, Pacific guards Ho and Eden Palacio.
In the title game, OSU limited Marquette to just 37 percent (19-for-51) shooting from the field, but the Beavers shot just 38 percent (23-for-60) themselves. The difference came at the free throw line, where the Golden Eagles were 26 of 34 while OSU hit just 6 of 11.
Marquette was 18 for 23 at the line in the second half. After the game was tied at 42-42 with 10:00 remaining, the Eagles went on a 13-6 run to go up 55-48 on Sarah Zawodny's layin with 3:54 to go.
