Jim Patterson joined the Oregon State University Foundation as the senior associate director of athletics for development on August 11, 2014. In his role, Patterson reports directly to Mike Goodwin, president and CEO of the OSU Foundation.
In addition to providing leadership to the OSU Foundation athletics development staff and Our Beaver Nation, he oversees the unit’s fundraising communications, donor relations, major gifts and the annual fund for OSU Athletics; all of which support Beaver student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence academically, socially and by winning championships.
He is responsible for the restructuring of Our Beaver Nation around the three pillars of fundraising success for OSU Athletics; major gifts, annual fund, and communications and stewardship. During his tenure at Oregon State, the unit surpassed its $180 million fundraising goal as part of The Campaign for OSU, and is currently nearing completion of the $42M fundraising goal for the Valley Football Center -- one of OSU’s strategic fundraising initiatives.
Additionally since 2015, Patterson and the Our Beaver Nation team have raised close to $80M for OSU Athletics, including over $1M to expand and improve the men’s basketball locker room, 1M to improve the fan experience at Gill Coliseum (speakers, improved chairback seating, bathroom remodels, reconfiguring the court), $300,000 for enhancements to facilities for Oregon State’s Final Four women’s basketball program, and over $200,000 for improvements to Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Prior to serving as the Corvallis city manager and CEO, Patterson served in the same capacity for the city of Sherwood, Oregon, from 2004–11. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Portland State University.
Jim and his wife Valorie have three children. Melissa is a graduate from Oregon State University and George Fox University where she earned her master’s degree in teaching. She is an elementary school teacher in Philomath Oregon. Katie is a graduate of Linfield College, is married and has two children Jenny and Bobby. Josh is a graduate of Oregon State with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science, and is an assistant football coach at Pacific University in Forest Grove Ore.
