Makayla put together a fantastic senior season and goes down as one of the best OSU gymnasts of her era … ended her career with 54 career individual titles, fourth in OSU history … qualified to NCAA Championships as an individual specialist on the floor exercise … named a Regular Season First Team All-American on uneven bars and second team on floor exercise and in the all-around by the NACGC/W … earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors on vault, bars and floor … won 22 individual titles in 2013, tying for sixth in single season history at OSU … named Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week four straight times toward the end of the season, a feat never previously accomplished in conference history; she finished her career with seven Gymnast of the Week honors - the second-most in conference history … scored 9.95 on floor to tie for the NCAA Corvallis Regional title … has matched her career-best 9.95 on the floor three times in 2013 … set career-high 9.975 on bars at Pac-12 Championships (3/23/13) … set career-high 9.950 on vault at Pac-12’s as well ... scored personal-best 39.600 in the all-around at Comfort Suites Invitational (3/9/13) … is one of seven gymnasts in OSU history to score 9.90 or better on all four events … named Pac-12 Tom Hansen Medal recipient given annually to each member institution’s outstanding male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership … “hit” 46-49 routines in 2013.
2012: Makayla enjoyed another stellar season earning her fourth All-America honor (second team on floor exercise) … named All-Pac-12 First Team in the all-around for the first time in her career … tied her career-highs of 9.95 and 9.925 on the floor and bars respectively at UC Davis (2/10/12) … tied her career-bests of 9.875 and 9.925 on vault and bars respectively at Pac-12 Championships (3/24/12) en route to establishing a season-high 39.475 in the all-around … also tied career-mark on vault against Boise State (2/24/12) … earned Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors following OSU’s Pink Out meet against UCLA and California (2/10/12) – scored 39.425 in the all-around … won 11 event titles (2 vault, 6 floor, 3 all-around) in 2012 and has 32 in her career – eighth in OSU history … performed in the all-around in 12 out of 13 meets; only performed vault and bars at Utah (3/2/12) due to sore leg … named an everyday champion during winter term … “hit” 49-50 routines.
2011: Makayla followed her outstanding freshman season with another All-America season, earning first team honors on uneven bars and floor exercise … one of three OSU gymnasts to qualify to Individual Event Finals on bars (Jen Kesler & Olivia Vivian) … Pac-10 Co-Champion on the bars … NCAA Corvallis Regional Co-Champion on floor … All-Pac-10 First Team on bars and floor … scored 9.90 on bars at NCAA Championships Semi-finals to finish first and advance to Individual Event Finals … scored 9.8625 on bars in Event Finals to finish tied for third … scored 9.8625 on floor in Event Finals to finish eighth … tied her career-high on vault (9.875) and in the all-around (39.525) at California (3/6/11) earning Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors … scored 39.400 in the all-around to finish second at Pac-10 Championships (3/19/11) … “hit” 39-44 routines.
2010: Makayla earned first team All-American status on the floor exercise as a freshman … named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year … performed in the all-around nine times in 2010 … scored a 9.90 on the floor to advance to Individual Event Finals at NCAA Championships … scored 9.73750 in Event Finals to finish 13th overall … scored 9.95 on the floor at Ohio State (1/16/10) in her second career meet; matched that score twice, at California (2/7/10) and vs. Arizona (2/12/10) … set season-high 9.925 on bars at Arizona State (2/26/10) … scored season-high 9.90 on beam at Ohio State … established season-high of 9.875 on vault vs. Washington (1/22/10) and again at California … was named the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week following meet vs. Washington and scoring 39.500 in the all-around … set season-high in the all-around with a 39.525 against Arizona … topped the 9.90 mark 13 times; three times on bars, once on beam, nine times on floor … “hit” 44 out of 50 routines.
PREP CAREER: Makayla is a six-time Junior Olympic national champion over the past two seasons … in 2009 she won the all-around, bars and beam titles … in 2008 she won national titles on beam, floor and in the all-around … spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons at the elite level and made the U.S. Junior National Team both years … trained at Byers Gymnastics Center under coaches Eli and Debbie Rodriguez and Mas Watanabe.
PERSONAL: Born in Vallejo, California … daughter of Rebecca and Richard Stambaugh … has three brothers, Brandon, Christopher and Nathaniel … has three sisters, Melissa, Mariah and Melody … is studying human development and family science with an emphasis in human services … chose OSU because "Oregon State has a lot to offer me academically and in the gymnastics program. I love to surround myself in a positive atmosphere and I know that OSU will offer that to me.
