CAREER NOTES: Maela (pronounced MAY-lah) ‘hit’ 29 out of 33 routines in her career … won six event titles in her career (6 on beam) … competed in 33 meets in her career … became the first walkon in Oregon State history to earn All-America honors in 2019 … three-time Pac-12 Academic honoree.

2020: ‘Hit’ eight out of nine routines and won a pair of event titles in 2020 … earned Pac-12 Winter Term Honor Roll. Regular season: Performed in the anchor position of the Beavers’ balance beam lineup in the nine meets in which she competed … matched her career-high on two occasions with scores of 9.925 on the beam at Sacramento State (1/17) and against LSU & Arizona State (2/8) … posted scores of 9.85 twice – vs. Centenary & Seattle Pacific (1/11) and against Washington (3/6) … won two event titles (2 beam).

2019: ‘Hit’ 12 out of 14 routines and earned three event titles in 2019 … earned second team All-America honors on the balance beam … earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. Championship season: Scored 9.8875 on the balance beam to finish sixth in the evening semifinals at NCAA Championships … tied her career-high on the beam with a 9.925 in the NCAA Corvallis Regional Second Round (4/5) … registered a 9.90 on the beam at Pac-12 Championships (3/23) … tallied a 9.850 on the beam in the Regional Finals (4/6). Regular season: Scored a career-best 9.925 on the beam at Washington (1/26) … scored 9.90’s on the beam against UCLA (2/2) and against California (2/17) … won three event titles (3 beam).

2018: ‘Hit’ nine out of 10 routines and earned an event title in 2018 … earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. Championship season: Tallied a 9.850 on the beam at Pac-12 Championships (3/24) … suffered the first fall of her career at the NCAA Raleigh Regional (4/7) scoring 9.20. Regular season: Made her competitive lineup debut against Stanford (1/27) setting her season-high with a 9.90 and winning the event … notched her second career 9.90 at Washington (2/10) … twice tallied scores of 9.875 against Arizona (2/17) and Michigan State (3/10) … performed a floor exhibition at Utah … won on event title (1 beam).

2017: Maela performed one exhibition in 2017 – on balance beam … scored 9.800 in exhibition against Illinois-Chicago (3/11).

PREP CAREER: Three-time Junior Olympic Nationals qualifier … earned first place finish on vault and uneven bars at 2016 Region 2 Championships plus second place finishes on floor exercise and in the all-around and third on the balance beam … finished third on vault and fourth on bars and beam at 2015 Region 2 Championships … earned silver medal finishes on vault and beam and thirds on floor and all-around at 2014 Region 2 Championships.

PERSONAL: Born in Honolulu, Hawai’i … daughter of Reuben and Mila Lazaro … has two brothers, Raiden and Rylan … enjoys shopping and makeup … honor roll … valedictorian … homecoming queen … chose Oregon State “to continue her gymnastics career and for the exceptional pharmacy program” … majoring in BioHealth Sciences with an option in pre-pharmacy and a minor in chemistry ... will pursue her graduate studies in OSU’s College of Pharmacy beginning in the fall of 2020.
