Harrison, Rasmussen, Hickey Recognized Again

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Infielder KJ Harrison and pitchers Drew Rasmussen and Mitch Hickey had outstanding freshman seasons for the Oregon State baseball team.
And they are being recognized for their contributions to the 39-win Beavers. For the second consecutive week, the trio was named Freshman All-Americans, with Monday’s honor coming from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Harrison and Rasmussen were named to the first team while Hickey was named a second teamer.
The NCBWA will name the national freshman hitter and pitcher of the year on Wednesday.
Harrison was named the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Year and a First-Team All-League honoree two weeks ago. He ended the season with a .309 average, 12 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and a league-leading 60 runs batted in.
He joins Michael Conforto (2012) and Dylan Davis (2013, 2014) as Beavers to lead the league in RBI over the past four seasons.
Rasmussen, meanwhile, was named an all-league first team selection. The Spokane, Wash., native went 7-4 this past season with a 2.80 earned run average. He struck out 82 and held opponents to a .223 average in 106 innings.
Hickey takes home his second honor of the postseason and for good reason. The right-hander went 4-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 27 appearances, and his 11 saves ranks sixth on Oregon State’s single-season record book. He held opponents to a .204 average in 27 2/3 innings.
