Low Garners CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State rower Katie Low (Bend, Ore.) was recognized on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 at-large first team Thursday.
Low, as a first team honoree advances to the national ballot which determines the Academic All-America team, which will be announced in June.
A senior, Low, is the first OSU rower to earn similar honors since 2001 when Cassie Bouska earned all-district first team. Lynn Simmons earned second team honors in 2003.
Low, who is studying zoology through Oregon State’s Honors College, has been an integral part of several lineups for the Beavers throughout her career. Low worked her way from the Novice 8 crew in 2011-12 to the Varsity 4+ boat in 2012-13. Last season, Low raced in the Varsity 8 setting the pace from the stroke seat for most of the season. This season, Low has provided senior leadership to the Second Varsity 8 crew.
She is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team member and has twice been named to the CRCA (Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association) All-Scholar Team.
Nominees for the at-large team were taken from student-athletes in the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo with NCAA institution allowed to submit four total nominees for consideration.
The team is selected by a vote of College Sports Information Directors of America members within District VIII, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai’i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
