Beavers Off to WOU for Twilight Meet
The Oregon State track & field team will stick close to home this Friday and compete at the John Knight Twilight Meet at Western Oregon’s McArthur Field.
Field events begin at 1 p.m. with the hammer; track events start at 4 p.m. with the women’s 4x100 relay. The meet concludes at 8:40 p.m. with the women’s 10,000 meters.
“It’s a good meet for our jumpers and throwers,” OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. “We hope to keep our momentum going and give some of our athletes we didn’t enter at Stanford last week a chance to compete.
“Western Oregon puts on a good meet. We’re using it as a springboard as we head into a really big meet next weekend, the Oregon Relays.”
Middle-distance specialists Kelsi Schaer, Morgan Anderson, Holly Cavalluzzo, Nicole Goecke and Sam McKinnon will be held out as they prepare for the aforementioned Oregon Relays, set for April 16-18 at Hayward Field.
The Beavers have established one school record and updated their top-10 career performance list 26 times in their first three outdoor competitions, a March 21 home dual against Utah and invitational meets at Willamette and at Stanford.
“It’s been good,” Sullivan said. “We are young and it’s been good to see [the team] adapt to new situations and new environments. I’ve been pleased with how we are responding.
“We’re competing a good young group and some veterans but we are also [redshirting] a good group too. I am excited about what we’ll do over the five meets we have left” before the Pac-12 Conference meet at UCLA on May 16-17.
