Hallock Wins Three Events at WOU Meet

Monmouth, Ore. – Junior Kara Hallock won the long jump and both hurdles races with top-10 all-time marks in every event on Friday to lead the Oregon State track & field team at the John Knight Twilight Meet at Western Oregon.
A transfer from Lane Community College who graduated from Lebanon High School, Hallock soared 19 feet, 5.25 inches in the long jump to move into third place all-time in that event. It was a season-best by more than nine inches, and led a 1-3-4-5 OSU finish in that event.
Hallock shaved .01 seconds off her season PR in winning the 100 hurdles in 14:33, the fifth-fastest time in OSU history. It’s the third time this spring she’s set or lowered her No. 5 all-time mark. It was also a meet record.
She later captured the 400 hurdles in 1:02.46, the 10th-best time in school history and a season-best by more than a full second.
The meet was also scored as a dual with Portland State, the other Division I participant, and OSU prevailed 91-54 to improve to 3-0 this spring. It also has wins over Utah and Portland.
Freshman Kerissa D’Arpino won the 100 (12.27) and 200 (25.42). Her 100 time is OSU’s best this year.
The long jump produced three other school top-10 marks. Lucinda Howard was third in 18-4.50, seventh-best all-time; Jasmin McKenzie was fourth in 18-3.25, eight-best, and Kaitlyn Mason was fifth in 18-3, ninth-best.
“It was a great day,” OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. “The jumpers, sprinters and throwers did fabulous, and we are definitely getting exactly what we hoped to get from this meet.
“The cool thing was seeing how competitive everyone was. They took the meet seriously and met the goals they set for themselves. That’s all you can ask for. Overall it was a great day.”
The Beavers have now established one school record and updated their top-10 career performance list 32 times in four outdoor competitions.
Other notable performances were:
· Michele Turney won the triple jump in a season-best 38-4.75.
· McKenzie Byrd placed 12th in the hammer (121-10.50), improving her season-best by nearly 12 feet.
· Kala Kopecek placed second in the 400 (59.64) in her first time competing in the event.
· Maureen Tremblay was fourth in the 800 in 2:15.63, OSU’s sixth-best time this spring. It was her first 800 in six years.
· Samantha Lewis won the 5,000 in 18:10.57.
· Aly Jackson and Jessica Lautenbach each cleared 5-3 and went 2-3 in the high jump.
OSU’s next competition is the Oregon Relays, set for April 16-18 at Hayward Field.
