Last Game
Six Oregon State relievers combined to limit Fresno State to five hits and a run in 8 2/3 innings to help guide the Beavers to a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday. OSU got RBI from KJ Harrison in the first and a by Gabe Clark via a home run in the third for all the offense it needed. Kevin Flemer worked 2 2/3 innings for his first win of the year and Luke Heimlich closed it out with 3 2/3 innings of work.
On Pace With 2014
Sitting at 13-3, the Beavers are on pace with the 2014 club, which was also 13-3 after 16 games and which ended the year at 45-14. The 2015 Beavers are batting .317 with 21 home runs and a .521 slugging percentage compared to .287, four home runs and a .380 slugging percentage a year ago. The 2015 team has a 3.08 ERA; in 2014, after 16 games, the Beavers sported a 2.09 team ERA.
Double Plays
Oregon State turned four double plays in Sunday’s victory, tying the mark for the most in a game at Goss Stadium since it was renovated in 1999. The Beavers have turned 20 double plays this season, and have hit into just 10. Of those 10, only five have been grounded into.
21 Home Runs Equals 2014
Much has been made about the Beavers’ home run potential, and for good reason. OSU has 21 home runs this season, equaling last season’s total. The Beavers have hit a home run in 11 consecutive games; Gabe Clark leads with six over that stretch, while KJ Harrison is second with four.
‘Pen Lowers Its ERA
The bullpen, on the heels of its 8 2/3 innings on Sunday, lowered its season earned run average to 2.94. The Beavers’ relievers have combined for seven victories, and have 49 strikeouts in 52 innings. The ‘pen is 2-0 in March and has yet to allow an earned run in 14 2/3 innings in the month.
Singles
• Pat Casey needs one victory for 900 all-time as a head coach. He has 728 wins at Oregon State, which is 19 shy of UCLA’s Art Reichle (1941, 46-74) for ninth all-time in Pac-10/12 history.
• The Beavers have won 10 consecutive games over Portland at Goss Stadium.
• OSU is 2-1 in games played on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
• KJ Harrison takes a seven-game hit streak into Tuesday’s game, while Jeff Hendrix is on a six-gamer.
