Moore Named Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Week

SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State junior Andrew Moore has been named the Pac-12 Conference’s Pitcher of the Week on Monday, commissioner Larry Scott announced.
Moore struck out 10 and allowed just three hits and a run in 10 innings against Fresno State in the opener of the Beavers’ series with the Bulldogs on Friday. He did not figure in the decision, however, as KJ Harrison’s home run in the bottom of the 11th inning won it for Oregon State.
Moore’s lone run allowed came in the fourth inning, a frame that saw the Bulldogs account for two of their three hits off him. He allowed just one hit and one walk the rest of the way.
The Eugene native retired the first nine batters he faced, then, after allowing two hits in the fourth and one more in the sixth, retired the next 11 batters he faced before a ninth-inning bases on balls. That didn’t deter the righty, however, as Moore ended the ninth with a strikeout and then struck out the side in the 10th before giving way to reliever Mitch Hickey.
Moore’s 10 strikeouts equals his season-best. Eight of his 10 came from the fifth inning on.
The Pitcher of the Week honor is the second of Moore’s career; his first came May 20, 2013 during his freshman season. It’s the 74th all-time for the Beavers, which ranks second only to Stanford, and the 28th since the then-Pac-10 unified prior to the 1999 season.
Oregon State turns its attention to a Tuesday midweek game against Portland at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. First pitch is slated for 5:35 p.m. PT. Fans can purchase tickets at beavertickets.com or by calling 800-GOBEAVS. The Goss Stadium ticket window opens at 3:30 p.m.
