Imperial Leads OSU at Willamette Meet
Salem, Ore. – Oregon State junior Bethany Imperial improved her No. 4 all-time mark in the triple jump on Saturday to pace the Beavers at the Willamette Invitational.
Imperial placed third in the event with a mark of 36-9.75, more than three inches better than her previous best. It was the lone performance that cracked OSU’s outdoor top-10.
“That is a big improvement for Bethany,” OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. “She didn’t get to jump indoors so for her to hold her focus and to jump as well as she did was great.”
Monica Anderson placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:31.39, the 10th-fastest time in school history in that event.
Junior Michele Turney won the long jump in 18-0.25, leading OSU’s 1-2-4-5 domination of the event. Turney was also OSU’s top finisher in the 200, taking 12th in 26.55.
“Coming off the high of last weekend’s dual against Utah and it’s always a little hard at the end of spring break to have a meet, but our kids did well,” Sullivan said.
Freshman Sam McKinnon was second in the 800; freshman Nicole Goecke was fourth in 2:14.32. Sophomore’s Annie Sidor and Helen Ann Haun went 1-2 in the pole vault; both cleared 11-0 and Sidor won on fewer misses.
Freshman Hannah Troutman was third in the shot put (43-0.25) and fifth in the javelin (136-0. Junior Rachel Picknell, competing unattached, was third in the discus (146-7) and fifth in the javelin (136-0).
The meet was not scored, but OSU defeated Portland 226-106 in a meet-within-the-meet.
The Beavers head to Palo Alto for the Stanford Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
