Last Game
Trever Morrison’s one-out double in the 11th inning sent the Oregon State baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Washington State Sunday at Goss Stadium. The win gave the Beavers a sweep of the Cougars for the first time since 2006. Morrison’s double capped off a 3-for-4 effort for the sophomore. Luke Heimlich earned his first career win.
Against San Jose State
Oregon State and San Jose State are slated to meet up for the 22nd and 23rd times on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, but the two have a somewhat unique series history. The Spartans hold an 11-9-1 lead in the series, with all 21 games being played in San Jose. OSU holds a three-game win streak but it has been 16 years since the teams played, in 1999. The first ever meeting was in 1953.
Heimlich = Bullpen
Oregon State needed the bullpen somewhat sparingly over the three games against the Cougars. And the bullpen consisted of Luke Heimlich, who worked all 5 2/3 innings on the weekend after Andrew Moore, Drew Rasmussen and Travis Eckert combined for 23 1/3 innings. Heimlich allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings against the Cougars.
Great Attendance Figures
Oregon State opens the series with the Spartans ranked 21st nationally in average attendance at 2,737 fans per home date (nine overall). That’s second in the Pac-12 Conference and trails only Arizona State.
At Home
Oregon State is 11-0 at home this season and has five games at Goss Stadium before visiting UCLA next week. The Beavers are batting .299 as a team at Goss, while opponents are hitting .161. OSU’s ERA is a miniscule 1.49 while opponents have posted a 7.60 mark.
Singles
• OSU is ranked in the top 25 in five of the six polls this week, making its debut in d1baseball.com’s and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls. The Beavers are highest at No. 11 according to Perfect Game.
• KJ Harrison has the team’s longest active hit streak at five games after Jeff Hendrix’s team-long 12-gamer was snapped in Sunday’s victory.
• OSU is 10-2 in the month of March. The Beavers have won at least 10 games in March for 11 consecutive seasons.
