Beavers Lead League with 24 All-Academic Rowers

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Twenty-four Oregon State women’s rowers, the most in the league, received recognition for their work in the classroom when the Pac-12 Conference’s All-Academic teams were announced Monday by Commissioner Larry Scott.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor and have attended their institution for a year or more.
Seniors Beth Lewis (3.80 grade point average, Spanish), Alexa Ortiz (3.92, zoology) and Hilary Polis (3.91, environment economy, policy & management); juniors Alissa Kummer (3.97, nutrition) and Ashley Molholm (3.73, management); sophomore Katie Low (4.00, zoology) and Julie Stark (3.68, public health); and redshirt freshman Laura McNeill (3.97, exercise & sport science) garnered first team all-academic honors. Polis’ selection to the squad marks her fourth consecutive selection to the first team, while it is the third straight year for Lewis and Ortiz.
In addition to 12 first-team selections, seniors Leslie Greer (3.36 exercise & sport science), Karly Laney (3.56, exercise & sport science), Kayla Laney (3.42, exercise & sport science) and Ellen Pesek (3.45, natural resources; juniors Lin Hill (3.51, exercise & sport science) and Tina Vernazza (3.49, nutrition); and sophomores Chen Oshri (3.57, biology) and Demetria Thompson (3.43, public health) were named second-team all-academic. It is the third straight second-team honor for Greer and the Laney’s, and the second in a row for Pesek, Hill and Vernazza.
Honorable mention selections were senior Nadine Poje; juniors Raven Chavez, Rita Hepler and Nicole Hook; sophomores Saasha Bruce, Maria Jolley, Anna Taylor and Emily Wright. It is the second mention for Hepler while Hook and Taylor were second team selections in 2012.
