NEW YORK, N.Y -
Former Oregon State tailback Jacquizz Rodgers has been drafted with the 14th pick in the 5th round (145th overall) by the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday in the 2011 National Football League Draft.
Rodgers earned three letters while making 35 career starts en route to one of the most prolific rushing careers in Oregon State history. As a freshman the Richmond, Texas native earned Associated Press and Rivals.com Third Team All-American honors. Rodgers finished his career at OSU ranked second in rushing yards (3,877) and sixth all-time in Pac-10 Conference history. He was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team three times and is one of only eight rushers in conference history to achieve 1,000-yards in three straight seasons. In addition, Quizz was the first ever freshman to be named the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year.
Rodgers is the third player in OSU history to declare early for the NFL Draft – Steven Jackson (2003) and Brandon Browner (2004) – and is the first Beaver tailback to be drafted since Jackson was a 1st round selection of the St. Louis Rams.
Rodgers joins Stephen Paea (2nd round/53rd overall) and Gabe Miller (5th/140) as Beaver alums taken in the 2011 draft, marking the fifth time during the Mike Riley Era that the Beavers have had three former players taken in the NFL Draft – 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009.
