Tevita Moala Sidelined Four Months
April 14, 2000
Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University senior linebacker Tevita Moala has been diagnosed with a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, it was announced Friday. Moala is scheduled to undergo surgery April 20, and OSU medical personnel expect him to be ready for competition prior to the Sept. 2 season opening game at home against Eastern Washington.
Moala entered spring practice listed as the starter at middle linebacker, but injured his knee in pre-scrimmage stretching April 8. The 5'10" Hawthorne, Cal., native played in all 12 games last season, accounting for 41 tackles. Moala also scored the game-clinching touchdown on a fumble recovery against California Nov. 6.
Moala came to Oregon State prior to last season from El Camino College in Torrance, Cal. He also played as a true-freshman at Brigham Young University in Utah in 1993, before suffering a season-ending injury. He then served on a Mormon Mission until 1997.
Freshman redshirt Richard Seigler has taken Moala's position at the top of the depth chart.
