Men's Basketball Concludes Season at Oregon
March 7, 2000
Corvallis, Ore. - THE SCHEDULE: Oregon State (13-15, 5-12 in Pac-10) concludes its 1999-2000 season Sat., March 11 at the No. 25 University of Oregon (21-7, 12-5). Game time from McArthur Court is 7:05 p.m., and the contest will be televised by the Oregon Sports Network. The Civil War is presented by your Northwest Dodge Dealers.
STREAKS: Oregon State is attempting to break a six-game road losing streak this week. The Beavers are also in search of their third Pac-10 Conference road victory of the season, which would be their most since winning three away from Gill Coliseum in 1993 (UW, Stanford, Cal). The Beavers have lost 21 straight games vs. nationally ranked opponents on the road.
IT MUST BE THE SOCKS: Ever since junior guard Josh Steinthal has sported the "high" socks look Feb. 17 vs. Washington, he has made 24 of 45 (.533) from three-point range. Coming into the Washington game (Feb. 17), Steinthal was shooting .330 from the three-point arc for the season, including 4-for-15 (.267) in the previous four games. His recent barrage has upped his percentage for the season to .394.
EXTRA INNINGS: Oregon State has won seven of its last 10 overtime games, with all three of the losses coming to Arizona State. The seven victories have been over USC (4), Arizona (1), Washington (1), and Oregon (1). Last week was the first time OSU has played in back-to-back overtime games since playing Washington State twice in Northern Division play in 1938.
OSU VS. OREGON SERIES: Oregon State leads the all-time series 176-135, according to the Pacific-10 Conference. Oregon has won two straight and 12 of the last 13. The Ducks won this season's earlier encounter over the cold-shooting Beavers 67-49 at Gill Coliseum (Jan. 8). A.D. Smith scored a game-high 22 points for UO, while Brian Jackson had 17 for OSU. OSU fell behind 37-16 at the half thanks to a .269 (7-26) shooting percentage, and a 24-5 UO run to start the game. Oregon won last year's game at McArthur Court 73-68, with Alex Scales scoring 16. The Beavers were led by Deaundra Tanner's game-high 21 points.
